Applying to study in the USA

If you would like to study full time in the USA, you will need to apply directly to the colleges or universities that you are interested in by completing an application form. You can get application forms by contacting the admission offices of the universities or colleges you are interested in.

Each college and university has different admission criteria. However, the list below gives you an indication of what most institutions will require from international student applicants:

The amount of time required to apply for admission to a college or university in order to study in the USA can be extensive. have produced an application timeline for international students which will guide you from 18 months before your time abroad, until your arrival in the USA:

Once the university has determined that your application is complete and you are academically eligible, they will issue an I-20 form to enable you to apply for your student visa.

Please be aware that applying to a university or college to study in the USA will almost definitely involve a fee. This can range from between U.S. $35 and $50 and covers the processing of your application and is non-refundable, even if you don’t attend the school.
